Jim had a goal:
To land a new opportunity that aligned to what he wanted after 20+ years in Big Pharma
From 20+ Years at F500 Pharma to Landing Desired CIO Opportunity at an Award-Winning CSO in <6 Months
Jeff was at a major pivot in his longstanding senior IT leadership career. He had been with the same F500 pharmaceutical for 20+ years, where he advanced rapidly to roles of increasing scope, responsibility, and challenge, with repeated success.
As a "utility" IT leader, his background was diverse.
He was in a unique position where he could leverage his diverse background, but the stage needed to be set correctly, or he would be spinning his wheels, as the market does not respond well to marketing documents that try to "be all things to all target audiences."
His company was undergoing a major transformation and global restructuring, and he knew his position would be redundant and eliminated.
He decided on 3 specific targets:
(1) Lateral move as SVP/VP IT & Digital at another Big Pharma, as he knew he didn't want the CIO spot due to the politics involved at that level
(2) Leverage his extensive background in transformation to position as a Chief Transformation Officer or SVP, Transformation at a Big Pharma.
(3) Leverage his unique hands-on experience working with emerging technologies and R&D to position himself as a CIO for a late-stage pharmaceutical or biotech.
Through out work together, different tailored resume documents were built to support his exploratory options.
Within <6 months he landed as CIO, Global IT & Digital at an award-winning biopharmaceutical contract services organization.
The tailoring involved that "spoke" to the needs and concerns of this specific audience, played a critical role in this success.
